"Bayeux, a medieval town at the gateway of the D-Day landing beaches, is one of the few towns in Normandy to have emerged unscathed from the battle to liberate France.”
Bayeux is a wonderful place to walk around in. There is a 2.5km (about 2 miles) walk around Old Bayeux that takes you around the medieval town area, explaining the historical heritage on information panels, and leading you to the Cathedral, the famous Tapistry, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy, the General Charles de Gaule Memorial, and the Botanical Gardens.
We'll have maps ready for you in your hotel room, and the Office of Tourism is just a few steps away with more detailed information.
If you decide you would rather go on an arranged tour, the Normandy Web Guide offers D-Day tours; they can pick you up at the hotel with a reservation. They offer half-day tours (9am-Noon or 1:15-6pm) for 45E that include all entries to the museums.
Also, Caen, the City of A Thousand Churches, most of which were destroyed during the war, offers interesting sites on its own, including the Memorial in Caen, which is a world-renowned WWII museum. Caen also has great restaurants and is a great place to shop.
